Truck nutz. Pink fucking truck nutz.
Kit lenses are garbage, not all of them, and not in all ways, but specifically for focus and zoom mechanisms being a little less than smooth.
For every minute of complete footage, you will spend a minimum of 20 minutes testing, deleting, moving, testing some more, deleting, moving, and then keeping some footage. Sometimes it will take an hour.
People will park in your shot, or stand in it, or drive through it at least twice. Or they will come up to you. You will learn to be an interviewer very quickly.
You will not mind the above if you have a vision of what you want to achieve with your piece of finished film.
Camera settings are important, as are a variety of lenses. This was shot with an 18-55 and a cheap kit prime on a camera that I had never used before today. Because of exposure tweaks and operating under a "lets use the camera to compensate" instead of using my editing software, it was allll blown out. Hooray for black and white though. Shit saves many days.
This city of mine contains some nifty stuff. It takes forever to find it all.
If you are attractive, stand in the middle of a public place with a camera recording in wide angle. You can judge later how many times you get elevator'd.
